Spotacular Children in Need Day

What a wonderful day we had raising money for BBC Children in Need! Our pupils came to school dressed in spots, stripes and all manner of colourful outfits to support this fantastic cause that helps disadvantaged children across the United Kingdom. The corridors were a riot of colour as children arrived in their creative costumes, many having spent the weekend with their families planning their special outfits.

A Day Full of Activities

The school council, led by our Year 6 representatives, worked incredibly hard to organise a series of fun activities throughout the day. During morning break, children enjoyed a "spot the difference" competition in the hall, with prizes donated by local businesses. The enthusiasm was infectious as groups of friends huddled together trying to find all the hidden differences in the Pudsey-themed puzzles.

At lunchtime, the main event took centre stage: our sponsored dance-athon! Children from all year groups gathered in the playground for thirty minutes of non-stop dancing to their favourite songs. Mrs Thompson led the warm-up, and even the teachers joined in for some of the more energetic numbers. The sight of the entire school community dancing together was truly heartwarming, and the children showed remarkable stamina as they kept moving through song after song.

Creative Activities Across the School

Our youngest children in Foundation Stage particularly enjoyed decorating Pudsey Bear masks during their afternoon session. Using yellow card, glue, glitter and plenty of spots, they created wonderful keepsakes to take home. The teaching assistants reported that the children were fascinated to learn about why Pudsey wears a bandage over his eye and what the charity does to help other children.

Meanwhile, Key Stage 1 pupils took part in a "guess the number of spots" competition. A large jar filled with colourful pom-poms sat in the entrance hall, and for a small donation, children could submit their guess. The winner, Amelia from Year 2, guessed an impressive 247 spots - remarkably close to the actual total of 251!

Key Stage 2 classes focused on understanding the impact of Children in Need. During PSHE lessons, teachers shared age-appropriate videos showing how the charity supports young people facing a variety of challenges, from illness and disability to poverty and disadvantage. The children were moved by the stories they heard and many expressed pride in being part of such an important fundraising effort.

An Incredible Fundraising Total

We are absolutely delighted to announce that together we raised an impressive £247.50 for the charity. This fantastic total came from costume donations, the dance-athon sponsorship, the guessing competition, and a cake sale organised by our wonderful PTA volunteers. Every penny will go towards supporting projects that make a real difference to young lives across the country.

A huge thank you to all our families for their generous donations and for helping the children get into the spirit of the day. Your support, whether through sponsoring your child, baking cakes, or simply encouraging their participation, makes events like this possible. We are incredibly proud of our school community and the way everyone came together for such a worthy cause.

Looking Ahead

The success of this year's Children in Need day has already sparked conversations about next year's event. Several children have suggested ideas including a sponsored silence (which teachers noted might be quite popular!), a talent show, and a Pudsey-themed art exhibition. We love seeing this enthusiasm for charitable giving and community spirit in our pupils.

Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to making this day so special. Together, we are teaching our children the importance of thinking about others and making a positive difference in the world.
